CYRUS AFRICA
To provide access to affordable micro credit for low income people, thereby improving family income and reducing poverty
Description
Cyrus addresses the problem of financial inclusion in urban poor and peri urban areas.Today, more than 2.5 billion people, half of the world's adult population, have very limited or no access to basic financial services compared to advanced economies. Considering the population living below the poverty line in Ghana, financial institutions reach less than 20% of the country's economically active poor constituting addressable market of 14million. Financial service providers tend to focus almost exclusively on under banked and banked segments. This leaves a large segment of the population unserved especially in the peri urban and rural areas. Increasingly though, due to urban migration, the needs of smaller loans by micro-entrepreneurs in the major urban centers keep increasing. This gap left in the market due to the concentration of financial service providers on the other less risky market segment creates a vast market opportunity for Cyrus.
