Sunpoynt Health
Enables uninsured poor slum dwellers access to health care twice monthly
Description
Sunpoynt Health is a for profit micro health insurance company which uses garbage scattered in slums as a financial resource in enabling uninsured poor slum dwellers access health care services twice monthly. With our model, the community pays clinical services by using garbage in an insurance scheme. This way SH makes the community mobilize their own unused resources to improve health access and breakdown barrier between health facilities and community mainly targeting slum children below 5 years and expectant women. SH opens up access to health in areas completely cut off by Government healthcare system. Linking waste to healthcare access becomes an incentive for community to start a proper waste management from household level, thus contributing to improvement of sanitation, waste disposal and prevent dumping of plastic waste in landfills. We are independently and sustainable maintained by community organization. Residents collected garbage is processed into money towards the "health fund" by 1. Organic garbage is processed into organic fertilizer by applying improved compositing method and sold to our network of flowers farms and organic farmers practicing organic farming and inorganic garbage(such as bottles, plastic, cans, etc) is sold to private recycling companies as a raw materials for their recycling activities whom we sign with a partnership agreement for a constant supply of plastic waste.
