Rangsutra
Enabling Indian artisans, especially women, to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
Description
Rangustra works with 3,000 artisans across Rajasthan, UP, and Kashmire, providing regular income to artisans who would otherwise struggle to find work. Most are women and most seek home-based work. The cash income provided directly into the hands of women has a significant benefit to her position in the family and her ability to provide for her children.
Testimonials
The GSBI programme was a real catalyst for us. I and the organisation learnt a huge amount in the building up and during the programme which has been invaluable.
It gave us the confidence and also crucial funds (through Greater Impact foundation) to grow our business.
The funds from the GIF were used to develop a cluster in Barmer, Rajasthan which is rich in craft but we never had the funds to risk on working there. We have seen immediate returns on this with the artisans there enabling us to taking on bigger orders from IKEA enhancing our export markets. It has also directly created another 600 sustainable jobs.
On the back of our work in Barmer we then got a large contract through the local state government in Rajasthan to do a similar project in Churu District of Rajasthan, which was funded by the World Bank.
This cluster development work is a brilliant mix of social empowerment (creating jobs) and also strengthening our supply chain to enable us to grow our top line. It is thanks to GSBI that this has taken off.
I was very humbled and inspired by the level of support and the amount of valuable resource which was given to us. The support we received as much as resources and funds provided also gave us really confidence boost to take the next step to scale up.
